Just shove any old 80-pin IDE cable in there... I can confirm it speeds stuff up from the HDD no end (I was running a Maxtor 80GB).
I did this to mine back in the day with a spare 80-pin IDE Ribbon I had and instead of video being choppy and slow, it was like Baileys dripped over a freshly waxed bikini line, lol   Don't know about improvement on the stock drives, but it's worth a shot I suppose...
