Isn't there an item called System Restore in youm Control Panel. (I definitely don't have one; removed - read: disabled and then uninstalled - the whole shit with XPlite ages ago...)

Me too, never used the restore function ever, sucks up too much space. We're hardcore here, we like getting our hands and systems dirty

Hi guys so anyone got the best way to remove restore, got loads of files for it and never seems to work properly, Used the rest to factory settings which is built in and dont wiped the whole drive, This restore thing is a waste of time, Have to wait ages while checkers go through the endless restore files. What about just deleting all these restore points buy just going to the directory and deleting? Will it affect the computer from working?

The real question is the following: are you maintaining your PC yourself well enough so that you don't have to rely on System Restore? (This includes regular cleaning of the garbage - useless/obsolete files on the disk and entries in the registry - with a cleaner software or manually and being smart enough to not install all kinds of software, especially so called "web shit".) If so, sure, delete the files and disable the service because you don't need them.
(The last time I installed Windows XP was about 3 years ago. The same installation is running on my PC at my work place and on my sister's PC. When my mum has time to give her PC to me for a few days, I'll try to make the installation work on that one, too. There were really weird cases of system crashes but those got solved soon. I don't think that System Restore would've helped much - especially when Windows kept crashing during the boot up process...)

In future, after a clean install of XP
Right click My Computer > properties > system restore tab > switch off. |
