OT: To the people having laaaag problems in Boiling Point
Doing a search in GameFAQs, I found a tweaked game.ini which by many users' feedback has been reported to make the game have no or very little lag in systems even below the MINIMUM specifications.
You can download it here: http://www.koevis.demon.nl/GAME.rar Make sure to backup your game.ini file inside your Boiling Point directory before extracting the one in the archive. Some additional notes, having 512 or 768 MB of RAM can really do bad in the game. This game requires 1-2gigs of RAM to play on the highest standard. A little trick would be to raise Minimum and Maximum Page File to 1500-2000MBs (if you have that much space left on your disk.) Don't ask me on how to do that, use Windows Help for once! Try these and tell me if it works. Sorry for the off-topic mods, feel free to move it.

@peogeot
So what you are saying is with only 640mgs of Ram you can play Boiling Point with 'all' the settings turned on to 'Full' or Max! I seriously doubt it!

The ini file is interesting. I'm trying to figure out the changes and what strikes me is that I've seen several ini files told to be "improving" performance. Some of them had the cache options (closer to the end of the page) set higher then normal and this one has it seems lower than normal.

Ahem...
Quoting myself, I said that 1-2gigs are needed to play on the "highest standard." I managed to get the game to play "pretty good" on 512MB, but I just got another 512, and I'll test it now. EDIT: Yap... More RAM did the trick. No lag, except little once in a while.

its not all about the ram.
i got athlon xp 2500+ 1 gig ddr ram gf4 ti4200 deluxe i set everything to ****ing minimum and did all game.ini tweaks i was able to find. didnt test your game.ini though. it works smoothly, but simply hacks for a second about every 20 secs or so... so the problem is the ****ed-up data loading tech boiling point uses. well one of my friends got a 7200rpm hd, installed the game on that and it made the same **** like on mine pc. then he installed it on his 36gig western digital raptor 10000rpm and - wow - it works fine, simply because its faster. will try your game.ini anyway, even if i do not believe it will change anything. sucks. game could be great. |

runs fine on my pc with everything on predefined very high and aa set to 2x(not the "custom setting" with all the sliders to high cause that can kill any ones pc :O)
my pc spec are installed game on (2 sata 150 maxtor drives) raid 0 - (also have swap file set at a fixed 3-3 Gigs on raid 0 drive i think hdd performace might be most importaint factor in this game) 1024 gigs ram (pc3200) Intel 3.2 Ghz HT geforce 6800 GT runs great for a few hours untill my swap file fills to max then i will notice a few jitters this game sure is addicting ..when i first started it i was almost dissapointed but i got hooked :O Last edited by hyakki; 02-06-2005 at 05:14. |

I have to agree with Eagle, it's a great game.
And I mean, sure the game doesn't got a good loading technique, but it's the developer's like first or second game, give them a brake, I'm sure they're doing their best to fix those problems. And for god's sake, I don't have all Options on Very High, but I can still enjoy the game, it's not all about eye-candy.

the truth about the lag
Yep, they have a very poor texture loading scheme..
To elaborate : I was running on 512mb Athlon 2500, Radeon 9700 Pro, and was experiencing VERY laggy play. Running around looking at the ground the game ran at full framerate, but as soon as I raised my head it was like running thru treacle. The graphics, whilst nice, are nothing to overly stress my videocard to this extent - so something was amiss.. Deep-Shadow helpfully (accidentally?) left all their debugging symbols on the DVD, so I booted up the game in Dev Studio - and every time the game lagged, it coincided with a load of.. "C++ exception..blah" "Loading Texture..blah-blah" ..messages in the debugger. I then looked at the "precache.txt" file in the game directory, and noticed that on all memory configurations of 768mb - 2048mb+ it ensures that a huge bunch of textures are loaded into main memory. To conclude - the game has a really poor pre-emptive loading scheme. Most well-written games will load up the textures & models it needs several seconds before it actually has to render them.. But this game doesn't load its textures until it actually comes to drawing them.. If the texture is not on the graphics card or in main memory, then a C++ exception is raised when it comes to rendering an object. The exception is then caught and the texture/model is loaded.. Hence why a faaaaast or defragged HD might make things a bit better. Anyway, I liked the game so much that I upgraded to 1.5gigs ram - and hey presto, silky smooth gameplay. Hope this helps CW |
