how in the world is it possible to beat the sorrow?

Well you don't really need to beat him. You can't cause physical damage to him. There are two ways to "beat" him. One is to avoid all the ghosts and his little typhoon looking things and when it says Snake is Dead, immediately press L2 to bring up your items and use a revival pill. That'll lead you into a cutscene.

Second is that you can just drown yourself by going prone into the water. Then when Snake dies, use the revival pill and you'll go to the cutscene.

I've heard that only get the Sorrow Camo if you survive the experience all the way till the end (When he says to wake up). I don't know if you can get the camo the other way. I just went all the way till the end and got the camo. Great game too, just beat it, now for round 2!

i am fighting the sorrow now how far am i from the end of the game about?
does anybody else think that the sorrow looks likt the demon headmaster?
