AppleX V strange problem
Installed an AppleX V in a v1.4 and it works great but when I turn on the xbox with eject it doesnt disable the mod. Regardless of how I boot the xbox with power button or eject, it always boots to the appleX V's bios. Any help here??
I just got done swapping it out with another AppleX V and resoldered everything and I'm still having the same problem. To get it to boot the the mod chips bios you would normally have to hold power for 2-3 seconds, I dont even have to do that, just tap power or eject quickly and I get the orange xbox screen. I took off D1 and still got the orange xbox screen. If I take off the D0 wire, of course it goes back to the green xbox screen. What the heck is going on here??? I have installed quite a few of these chips now and have never came across this problem. So in the end the chip is working and booting back-ups, I just cant disable it the way its suppose to be disabled.

The same thing happened to me with an Aladdin AP on a 1.4. It was working fine but I installed it just to install an exploit on the hard drive and flash the original bios. I couldn’t figure out how to do it so I reinstalled the Aladdin and now it goes orange right away when I tap power and it is unprotected. You are supposed to hold power for 3 seconds for unprotected mode. I thought it was my 2 jumpers to write enable the onboard flash but still did the same thing after I removed my jumpers!
I was kind of wondering how to force a working Aladdin to boot without a BIOS switch option, and then this happened! I never did try a different Aladdin, I checked everything for shorts. Every great once in a while if I power on with eject it will boot green with original BIOS but most of the time it will just boot orange. If you can figure out what’s going on let me know, I don’t like it when things aren’t working the way they're supposed to. Last edited by ihaveanosebleed; 26-04-2004 at 04:40. |

try pressing the eject and power button really really fast, although, I don't think that will do much. Just worth a try. Maybe that 3 seconds is actually a .5
![]() Anyways, I never installed one of these chips and just now got a glimps at the solder instructions. The d1 probably controls the boot or it is another ground (heh, didn't look like the screw was used), so make sure you have enouph solder there, or that it isn't touching any other points. Also check for solder spots on the board, maybe some solder dripped. If the other chip acted the same, it has to be the points on your mobo. You might also want to try a different wire. It's unlikely, but that could be the problem. If all fails, I guess a switch on the d0 will be your only option.
