PS2 v9/10 laser (reading disc) issue

Well, I finaly got my PS2 with Ripper 2 gold. But since I've read that the new PS2 consoles have probelms with no-name CD-R/DVD-R, like the laser get's f*****. I got pretty cautious. I've got some old PSX games on 4x Verbatim CD-R. (they work fine, no sounds, reads fast, etc., my PS2 Originals too) But if I insert 48x CD-R media (Verbatim/Sony) the drive makes a lot of noise, but the data ist burned in 4x. I would like to know if it's bad for the PS2, cause it has problems reading the CD-R media or if its normal. If u know some better CD-R media plz tell me.

If you are using Verbatim DataLife PLUS, they are the best CD's you can get. Don't burn them at 4x though. Burn them at the fastest speed you can as the dye is more stable at the higher speeds on the newer CD-R - they hate being burned slow. You'll have far better results burning faster. So if you can burn at 48, do so!

Well I can burn max. 16x but I don't like burning too fast cause the most Drives don't like it. Yakumo DVD-R works fine too.
But I'd still like to know if it's damaging the laser or not.

The last Sony cd-r's i got were crap, There quality has really went down hill. The "squeaking" you hear is the laser trying to focus on the media, some media is "weaker" than others and will produce more noise from the console. Personally i would stay away from cheap media, when it comes to cd-r's usually the darker blue the bottom is the better. Like Lufcfan, i use Verbatim without any problems

I use Verbatim CD-Rs and Yakumo DVD-Rs, but if I use the verbatim CD-Rs its the same like using cheap media, it's still "squeaking". Should I still use em? Also my copy of Way of the Samurai dosn't work normally, the original works fine, but if I use the backup (its on a Yakumo 4x, burnd in 1x) the viedo sequences are "lagging" like using dvix in high res with an old cpu.

Are you using the "AZO" Verbatims? I like those best.

Yes, crystal & super azo, but they aren't deep blue. Perhaps I'll buy those black CD-Rs, hope they got cheaper.

The black CD-R's are crap. The Verbs you have are the DataLife PLUS version, and are by far the best discs - even though they are not dark blue. I'd say still stick with them - despite th squeaking. I still can't think why they are doing that - they don't in my V4R PS2?

You have to expect a little squeaking with cdrs. I just hope its not really loud.

That's the problem, it is loud.

Since when are the black ones crap? They always had the best compability, endurance ..., in every test. I just didn't buy them cause they were too expensive.
