graphic card problems

i need help with my graphic card. i just bought a geforce fx 5200 (pci) and installed it. the computer reads it fine plays games fine the only problem is windows will not properly shut down. i installed the latest driver 53.04 and still no luck.

my system is roughly..

windows ME
380 ram
pentium 3
27 gb hd
geforce fx 5200

now i had the same exact problem with my geforce 2 a few years ago and someone gave me the correct driver for it and it shut down. now im wondering is it still a driver problem? even though i installed the latest driver?

Remove the nvidia driver.
And install the generic microsoft Standard PCI VGA adapter drivers.
Then see if you can shut down properly.

im not exactally sure how to do that. i unistall the nvidia drivers then load up windows (which should be in safe mode right) then where would i click to install standard drivers?

i dont know if i did it right but this is what i did. i unistalled the nvidia drivers and took out the graphic card software. restarted and clicked search for best driver and i got standard pci driver installed but i cant seem to get out of safe mode when i do that.

What is the Graphics Card Software to which you refer ? If this is the disk that came with the card, these will be the drivers for it. If you have Nvidia drivers loaded also, you have 2 lots of drivers installed !

Try this

1. Throw drivers that came with card in bin
2. Uninstall all drivers for card in Windows "Add / Remove Programs"
3. Download latest Nvidia detonator drivers from *http://www.nvidia.com. These will be the drivers for the FX5200 chip direct from the manufacturer as opposed to those for the card (hence throwing the disk in the bin)
4. Restart PC. Normal boot required (not safe mode)
5. When Windows detects the card, ignore it.
6. Go to .EXE file downloaded from Nvidia site and unpack drivers.
7. Restart PC.

All should be fine. I've installed a number of Nvidia cards in this manner with no problems (FX5200, GF4, GF2)

i finally fixed the problem, it wasnt the drivers at all they were fine, all the problem was i forgot to disable to on board graphic card!! i feel so F'N dumb because it was sooo simple i completely over looked it lol thanks for all the help though everyone
