I made a backup of Vice City recently but had problems when putting the image file onto the hard drive , i kept getting read errors, so i used dvd decryptor and set it to ignore the errors. This took longer but eventually it copied the game.
The game was copied at 1 speed onto a verbatim dvd-r The only problems ive noticed while playing is freezing. The game sometimes completly locks up and i have to restart. Annoying but it only happens now and again never at one point over and over. Do you think this is probably because of the read errors while it was copied? I havent had any serious problems with other games , all other games that work are on ritek dvd-r. One other strange thing i noticed was when i select Dts from the menu and go back into the game i cant get any sound , my home cinema receiver can decode Dts and the Ps2 is connected thru an optical cable. The Dts symbol just flashes on the receiver instead of just staying still as normal. I cant work it out , im thinking it must be the read errors somehow effecting this. Home cinema system is panasonic SC-DT310. Just in case someone out there has one. LoL. It could also be the receiver , may not be able to recognize dts from a game , i dont know. Just thought id post this anyway see what everyone thinks. |

The disc must be slightly damaged in some way, i.e: scratches/warped etc... and this is what was giving you the errors. Try and get hold of another original disc and recopy it. If you get errors, try another disc, for example borrow one from a friend. As long as you own an original disc of the game, it doesn't matter what original you copy it off.
Hope this helps... LUFCfan

This has proved to be a troublesome game with lots of people ( me included) with various dvd-r and ps2 versions. When I upgraded to a version 7 and burned to traxdata the problems disappeared and runs perfectly on my version 9. U didn't mention what ps2 u have but a version 4 or below would probably find some read errors even on a decent backup and version 5's are getting on a bit now so laser age would probably cause problems. What version ps2 and what media?
Regards

i use a V4R (original laser is STILL as good as the day I bought it), modded with Messiah 1 and my backup is on Traxdata 1x DVD-R and it runs perfectly.

Its a V5 board.
Used Verbatim dvdr to back it up. I used ritek on everything else so far. Im not sure if its just the fact that alot of lasers can find it hard to read this game or maybe the read errors when copying it have something to do with it? I have the first Max Payne game on verbatim dvdr and it worked perfect the whole way through. I used to have max payne on a cheaper dvdr and it gave me hell. On verbatim no problems but yet vice city keeps freezing at random , no glitching though. Do you think it would be better to stop playing a game when its freezing all the time in case it damages the laser? |

Yea well ive got some datasafe with ritek dye here that ive used for other games and had no problems so i could try that.
Im just wondering though the fact that when i copied the game onto the verbatim it had read errors from the original , so do you think this could play a big part in the freezing of the game? I put the verbatim copy into my dvd writer and tried to read it just to see what happened and it can read it all without errors. But doesnt it mean that it still contains them because when the actual copy was made it reported them? The original is badly marked so thats probably why it had trouble reading it. Im wondering if copying onto the datasafe ritek will make any difference now , possibly it would work because the ps2 may not pick up the read errors while using ritek. Hmmm another dvd-r about to be wasted . Possibly. |
