Problem Loading PS2 DVD

I have a external backpack dvd+-rw usb 2.0 drive and I am having problems playing my dvd-r backups. I have used memorex dvd-r , and verbatim dvd-r they all load just fine but either 1 min. into the loading where they play the logo's of the game, or when I get ready to start a game it keeps on freezing.

I am using a swap magic disc and I was wondering if it is the something that could be fixed. I have used DiskJuggler and RecordNow, but can't figure out what the problem is. When I go to play a dvd-r or dvd-rw movie on the ps2 it plays fine, but just when I go to play a game it freezes. Can anyone help me out, maybe recommend a different program to use.

My dvd burner has no problems coping because I have made dvd movie backups with no problem, and I am able to play cd-r backups with no problem, just when I go to use a dvd-r it messes up. Any help would be greatful.

I know you are going to say get a real mod chip but I am using this at friends houses so I can just take it with me and play there, so they all don't have to get there system chiped. And so I don't have to carry my system all around.

What vers. ps2 is it? What vers. RecordNow are you using? How are you burning? Making an image? On the fly?

I am not quite sure what version my ps2 is, I can check that out later.

My version of recordnow is 6.5.3

My version of DiscJuggler is 4.10.1128

I have tried Recording to HD first in cdi or iso format then to dvd-r.

I have tired to record on the fly from dvd to dvd-r.

I still get the same problem, just with every try it will freez at different points but never able to play the game.

i take it ur useing a silde card sence u said u play it at a friends house to play and about haveing a real mod swap magic will play the games just fine i used and tested these on alot of games it must be the way u burning them and what games r u trying to play cause a very few games will start to load then freeze due to 2x toc check like freedom fighters and splinter cell and true crime

Well the games that I have tried are:

Simpsons Hit and Run

Max Payne

GTA III (Not Vice City)

So far only them because everytime I try they load perfect as I said, but stop on the logo screen or like in the simpsons game I can go to the menu search options and load my game fine. Then when it loads the level it freezes.

Yes I am using a swap trick with the card, I have never had a problem before just now I started coping ps2 games and have not got one to play correctly.

Also what do you mean by the 2x toc check. Could it be the speed in which I record them at? The Swap Disc is a file size of 4.7Gbs I believe but even the simpsons game is only 2.0gbs

I know that the toc of the boot disk has to be higher than the toc of the backup game, but why did you put in the 2x?

U still haven't mentioned what version ps2 u have. If u have an older version then I suspect that your laser is just gettin old an not up to reading dvd-r.

Also when u back your games up ensure that u r doing nothing on yr pc while burning the disc. There was a guy on here who couldn't understand why every time he made a backup it skipped, jumped or froze when he ran it on ps2 an it turned out he was surfin da net whil burnin which can really mess things up.

Never copy disc to disc. always make a hardrive image first. RecordNow is fine to use although u might wanna try some different media ( ritek or traxdata dvd-r). Havin said that verbatim should be okay as long as they're not the inkjet printable ones.

the 2x toc is a new copy protaction $ony made its on v7 units unsure about v9's but more an likey on them to and i hread max payne wont work with swap magic with out cd loader but gta3 and hit an run work i belive so its eather ur laser or u got bad burns

Try a laser cleaning disc.

Ok here is the spec. of my ps2 unit.

Serial F U 0 4 7 9 4 9 8

Model No. SCPH-30001 R

and there is a bar code sticker that says: P T 3 0 4 7 9 4 9 8 8

Under the unit is 8 screws to hold the case on.

I hop that is enough information, and if someone knows what version is it please let me know.

Also does the cd laser cleaning disc really work?

Yes cleaning discs can help. If you have 2 screws in your expansion bay it is a v4 if you have 3 it is a v5/v6.

Well when i remove the Expansion Bay cover I see only 2 screws. One screw on the left side, and one screw on the right side. I don't see any other screws so that means it is a version 4 system.

v4 lasers are hit and miss. I would try cleaning the laser first. If that doesn't work I would normally recommend just selling it and buying a new ps2, but since you are going to just end up busting it anyways using the slide card I would try adjusting the laser.
