Codecs

I've been reading and reading and it sounds like there's a bunch of different codecs out there. If I install a bunch of different types will it hurt my computer? I had everything set perfectly last week and then I upgraded to Media Player 9.0 and now its all downhill. Even my AVIs won't work in VOB Instant CD/DVD. I did a search and checked the recommended links, but I wanted to ask before I do something wrong.

As long as you have a Software DVD Player on your PC, the only codecs you really need are DivX, XVid & The AC3 Filters. If you have the latest version of WinDVD Platinum, you do not need to install the DivX codec, as it comes with it. Dont install those stupid All-In-One codec packs... Waste of time.

Not to sure if thats the info you were looking for, but there you go.
