trouble w/ backing up Socom

i have a pioneer dvd-r AO5, i'm using the instructions on this site. but when i begin building the image file, computer freezes up. i notice a lil' scratch on the game but it can play on the ps2. i backed up a previous game before then without no trouble. what could it be? i had to reboot my (4 year old) computer three times. i appreciate your help.

Try using a very fine finishing car polish with a very soft cloth to polish off the scratch a bit. The reason its playing on your ps2 is because it probably hasnt gotten to that part of the disc yet.
