problems with ntsc games

i have a multisytem tv and a palps2 with magic3
if i try to play ntsc ps1 games i see them in black and white
if i play ntsc ps2 games i can see only some of the colours i see alot of red and green

why is that??

Either your TV isn't really multi-system or you have used an AV port that doesn't accept NTSC. The booklet will tell you which AV port to use.

I hope that's what it is.

theres a switch on my tv that says"ntsc 3.58" so it must be multi system but mabye its because my tv is old??

Hey Charlie so if you have a Multi-System TV you don't have to do the color fix on your ps2?

So it doesn't work right when you switch to NTSC 3.58? Have you done the NTSC/PAL Colour Fix wire?

With a proper multi-system TV (one that autodetects the signal) I can have my toggle switch in any position (I have a switch that is wired to the NTSC/PAL Colour Fix). I can either force PAL, NTSC or default. The TV handles it all without distortion or loss of colour.

I've also got a PAL only TV. So I can test it both ways.

My investment for your benefit is quite considerable.

A quickie, have you tried this: force PAL on your PAL machine and pop in a NTSC game and use your PAL only TV, does it work?

The NTSC/PAL Color fix wire is simply a wire that is solder into 2 point of the ps2 motherboard that forces either NTSC or PAL on your machine.
Go here: http://www.messiah2.com/index.php?subpage=3 and download the appropriate installation diagram for your ps2 Version even thought the diagrams are for a messiah 2 the color fix should work with a magic 3 as well. The install diagrams will tell you which points you have to connect.

No - I've only done this on the NTSC machine. When I put a NTSC game into the PAL machine and on into the PAL only TV, I run the output through an NTSC-PAL convertor that I bought from Maplins a couple of years ago.
