Question James Bond 007 - Nightfire - No Movies

James Bond 007: Nightfire

Movies do not play. Skips logos, intro movie, cutscenes - everything. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any known workarounds? Tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Hi loficat, might be that you need to install some AVI codec? Anyway, this is _not_ a game support forum, call the appropriate technical support line for help. Good luck,

Joe

Wink

Two birds with one metaphysical stone:

A) Yes, I know this isn't a tech support forum...

B) No, it's not - Image.

I thought others may have experienced similar issues upon replacing or patching select files. If so, perhaps there is a solution... if not, misery loves company, or so I've heard say.

Have you tried running it from the original cd without applying a crack ? You DO have an original cd right ?

Question

Glad to know you haven't fallen off the edge of the world yet, Rincewind...

Yes.

I think it's something specific to this particular cpu - I installed it on another box with almost no issues. I'm not sure what it could be - all drivers are up-to-date et al. Videos play fine if viewed manually, so I don't think it's a codec or dll issue, though I suppose some odd file could have gone rogue somewhere. If that was the case, I'd think the issue would be rectified upon reinstalling.

Hmmm... Since I'm also experiencing issues with the dedicated server, I'll just run with the 'my copy is cursed' standby until something suddenly comes up.

Thanks.

Hi loficat, haven't noticed such problems myself, not even with backup CD's or with a no-CD patch (all shit copied onto the hard disk, yikes! ). You might have to wait for an official patch, it seems... (?)

So the videos don't run even without a crack applied and from the original cds. Still sounds like a codec problem. What codec is used ? What kind of extension do the video files have ? I've had a lot of problems with at least two different codecs that aren't supported well enough under XP. Indeo and Bik both gave a lot of problems and I had to hunt down an updated codec for both.

Rincewind, nice guess! The movies are AVI's, the codec is Indeo 5.x...

Cool

All woes fixed...

Had increasing issues not only with 007, but was unable to play Rallisport and had problems with XP in general and many many other apps.

The solution:

Rolling back Detonator drivers? No. What, then? Installing DirectX 9. That not only apparently solved all the issues, but has enhanced many apps as well.

Thought you might like to know. Thanks for your help.

Question

DirectX 9 in and of itself did not solve any issues (as other units with earlier versions of DX function fine with select apps) - rather, I think some of the files included in the package must have been missing, corrupt or simply deviant. It mostly works now, though... so I'm not asking any questions or looking at it sideways. At least for a few days.

Had the same "Problem" You have to install Indeo Video ... I uses the Win 2k Version on my WinXP because MS dropped the codec from their OS (in SP1)

Uhm... I had the indeo xp decoder before, but I don't now.. just checked and the movies play fine for me. Only codec I have installed is divxpro 502 bundle. www.divx.com to get basic bundle, which is the same thing.. just can't encode with it. If uh.. this doesn't fix ur prob.. u may be assed out.

Thumbs up

Everythings apparently working fine now. I think it was a rogue DLL or association or somesuch... I could manually play the movies fine - they just would completely skip in-game... the cursor was jerky - the music was wrong - no girl dancing in the background - etc. I don't know the root cause. Perhaps something I installed since the last DirectX wrote over something else - maybe I uninstalled something that decided to break something as it went out the door... all I know is that it was affecting Windows as a whole as well as many apps. Even IE didn't work right. ???
