problem burning No One Lives Forever

I've had this very annoying problem not being able to burn...
using....
verbatim cds, retailplus 20/10/40 burner
cdrwin, burning at 4X!!!!!!
i've extracted game perfectly, burned perfectly yet...game just will not load...
help?
is there a patch or something?
what is going on?
please please help i'm terribly fustrated =(
any suggestions will be of great appreciation

EDIT: I also have neo2, on a v.4 PS2, could it be my mod version?
