firmware!!! help!!!

hi i am at my whits end. i have a wearnes cdrw1622. it works fine in dos but will not read at all in windows. firmware says verious 1.0b which appears to be original.

ihave tried to find a firmware upgrade but all the firmware updatees for the wearnes are 3.5 or 3.9. on investigation....removing the cover!! it appears that the wearness is made by yamaha. does this mean that the firmware for the yamaha cdrw2216e version 1.0j will work with this drive to make it work under windows?

is ther a way to clear the eprom in the cd to enable a fresh firmware install?

where could i get such a utility if it exists?

any clues any help would be greatly appreciated.
