Controller Port

I'm back and as dumbfounded as ever.... i think that i may have determined my multiplayer prob... i think that my controller port B is bad... when i plug a controller into it and a memory card then goto the file manager on the DC desktop ..it does not display that there is a memory card there. so i now ask would that effect my multiplayer ablitities even though the other ports work?? next where can i get a controller port ... or where can i get a controller port in Canada??
