How to make a copy of the Harry Potter game?
I own the Harry Potter game (Dutch version) and would like to make a copy of the original CD-Rom for possible later 'disasters'.
When I just burn the whole CD, via a temp folder on the hard disk. I cannot play the game from the copy CD-Rom. The error: 'Insert Original CD' appears (or a similar message). I am able to run unsafe disk and play the CD without CD Rom, but would like to make a 100% similar copy of the original CD-Rom which runs on its own. Can anyone give me some advise? |

Harry Potter is one of those annoying games that is not only protected with Safedisk2 but with ATIP protection as well.
If you have a writer capable of 'correct EFM c####g' (can handle Safedisk 2), then use Clone CD ####://www.elby.de to copy it. (Use Fast Error Skip while reading to an image file, and use ur burner to make the image file). If your burner can't do correct EFM c####g then the new feature in Clone CD 'Amplify Weak Sectors' MIGHT help. You select this when you are writing the image file to the CD. Both of these ways WON'T get rid of the ATIP protection. The ATIP is a small section on every CD-R that holds the manufacturers name, length etc. This ATIP isn't present on pressed Cd's, so if there is ATIP present then it won't play. Another of Clone CD's new features is it's 'Hide CD-R Media'. When this is enabled, it hides that the game is burned, and so you will be able to play it. The downside being you have to have this feature running in the background. The other option you have is to use Unsafedisk which will get rid of the Safedisk 2 AND the ATIP check. Instructions: 1)Copy all dll's to a temp directory, along with the main exe as well. 2)Run safedisk 2 dumper on the exe. A data.bin file is created. 3)Run safedisk 2 Rebuilder on the data.bin file. This creates your new 'fixed exe'. 4)Rename the new file to exactly what the original one was. 5)To burn to a CD-R - copy the whole disk to a temp directory, replace the original exe with the new 'fixed exe'. Use Nero preferably to burn the contents of the temp directory WITH THE ORIGINAL CD LABEL. If the label on the original cd is "Harry_Potter", then your copy must have this exactly as well. Hope I've answered any questions, these are really the only options there is. BTW - by using Unsafedisk on the exe, the file size changes. During installation this will be noticed and an error messege will pop up - just click ignore to continue and you won't be bothered by it again.

Hi there, I have been able to make a working copy of Harry Potter though my burner is not capable of correct EFM c####g, nor reading RAW DAO, only raw SAO. I used clony to detect the protection in the game, then used CloneCD to read the game to an image file using the settings Clony gave me for CloneCd. Then I used BetaBlocker to fix the bad sectors in the game (the protection), you can get BetaBlocker at GCW. Then I burned the image file to a cd using CloneCd and ticking amplify weak sectors in CloneCd. The game worked perfectly in my computer and in another computer at work, but when I tried to use it in an older computer(3yo) it did not work with out a exe fix, I had to change the exe file with a fixed one ( you can get it at GCW), and then it worked great!
So copying Harry Potter is possible with CloneCD and BetaBlocker in a writer that does not support correct EFM c####g nor raw dao. I also copied The sims house party the same way and it wored fine in 2 computers I tried it, one is also 3 years old and the other is new. Good luck! Sera from Iceland |

Amplify Weak Sectors does the same thing as Betablocker does, so there should be no need to use Betablocker when you can do it 'on the fly' with Clone Cd.

HI there, oops sorry I did not know it did the same thing! anyway it worked though I did them both. Can you tell me something, if I am writing a game with safedisk1 will ticking the amplify weak sectors on CloneCd help or make things worse?
I am kind of a newby on this but learning and reading as much as I can. To me it's a challange to be able to make a working copy of a protected cd I am no teenager and I am female, so I guess I am not the avrage copier!! LOL.Thanks alot for the tip. Sera from Iceland |

I made all what you suggested (gh0sth@cker) to make the copy of the Harry Potter game (Version with French, German and English game). First I copied with CloneCD (Read with Fast Error Skip/ Write with Amplify weak sectors). I made another copy with BlindRead/BlindWrite. With both of them, I can use the game already installed (with the original CD), but I can't install it. (on my second computer, I can't play nor install)
I tried to do exactly what you said (with safedisk2 dumper and Rebuilder), I burned the disk with Nero (version 4; what I have). When I try the fresh copy, I receive a message "Insert original CD" (I didn't try the installation yet, but I'm not optimistic)... So where is my problem ? I have another question : where can I find the option "Hide CDR media" within CloneCD ? I didn't see it anywhere. Thank you for help |

After using the Unsafedisk you definately NEED to reinstall or you cud replace the exe urself, but reinstalling would be simplier. The reason you will have to reinstall is cos the fixed exe you created is what you want to start the game with - as you are using the original exe (from the original game) you are starting the game from that. Nad also double check you have used the SAME CD LABEL.
BTW - Hide CD-R Media isn't in any of the read/write boxes. It is in the Clone CD Tray - bottom right of your screen if you've got it running. Right-click on the Clone CD Tray and then make sure Hide CD-R media is ticked.

Thank you very much. It works fine. I'm sorry to be such a newbie, but I'm learning ! Now, I understand what I had to do, so the next time, I hope I won't need help.
And I found the Hide CDR Media option, in the CCD tray (was not activated). Can you explain me why both copies I made before (with BlindRead/Write and CloneCD/without patching) can play the game, but not install it. Is it because those software can pass over some protection but not all ? Is it because the main protection is in the setup ? BTW : Sera, you're not the only one to be female and not a teenager (far from that !), I'm in your club ;-) |

I'm not sure why you weren't able to install the game with the Clone CD copy. As far as I know the setup exe isn't protected. The only games I've seen use this are Red Alert and Yuri's Revenge.
I might have something to do with ur burner, scratched cd, or somethin else - i dunno. Just wait and see if you can do any other Safedisk 2 game without the install problem. I'm pretty sure it's nothin to do with the protection.
