Help NTSC 2 PAL patch for silent US?

I have a UK playstation it is an old version with the RF lead which plugs in to the phono sockets, it has been chiped and has always worked with Silent hill US through my scart lead, but my scart socket on my TV has broken so i have to use the RF, i have tried the patch which is availabe for download (pdx-shill.zip) and have followed the idiots guide to make my own PPF patch, both work fine on a friends newer version PSX, but fail to load on mine the screen is black and the playstaion logo is blue,
