HUGE problem I have with DiscJuggler!! Please HELP!

Hey guys, I hope you can help me out with this. Everytime I try to burn a cdi image with DJ, it gets to be about 40% done and then the Cache starts to rapidly drop from 100%. It hits zero and then there is an error message saying "specified device is no longer available." Then after that it says "To continue please insert a second blank disc." Now, I know that Tony Hawk 2 (the game I am trying to burn) is NOT a 2 CD game. So please help me out here. What am I doing wrong? Are there any options I need to switch on/off? Thanks alot.

THanks for you help Scorpion, but I don't have the option to Defragment my harddrive on the computer that my burner is on. Yeah I know where to find it: Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, but for some reason it's not on my computer w/ my burner. I have also tried burning at lower speeds before but i still get the same message. Is there any other way that I could defragment my HD though? THanks alot.

What o/s are you running?
Win 95/98/Me will start defrag by simply typing 'defrag' on the Run screen (Click Start, Run).

I usually solve buffer probs by droping burn speed by half. If it craps out at 8x, try it at 4x. Won't work at 4x? Then try it at 2x.

No defrag? Jeesh. You better check your install on Windows (do a setup /f).

I would recommend getting Norton Systemworks. They have a great defrag. Diskeeper is also a top notch defrag util...

The bottom line is that you HAVE to defrag your computer. No matter what the cost.

could be that your drive is so much fragmented, that the defrag program sucks on it, then you must reinstall windows and defrag 1 times a week. its better!

If defrag freezes, then you may have errors on your hard drive. Run Scandisk (the same way you ran defrag from the run screen, type in 'scandisk' as the command) and select Thorough and to automatically fix errors. A standard scandisk will no do a surface scan and the errors will remain.

If your hard drive has errors that scandisk needs to fix, defrag will either give you an error message about it or lockup, your situation being the ladder. If scandisk finds and fixes the errors, then defrag should start working for you. But there are no guarantees in life I suppose.

Hey Jody, I actually tried to do the Scandisk and I selected the "thorough" option. However, it keeps on restarting! I got a message saying that it restarted 10 times. No other programs were running, just that. I would get towards the finish, but then restart again. What should I do about this now?

The problem with scandisk and defrag sounds exacly like a problem a friend had and as luck would have it it was a stuffed HD.
Sorry about possilbe bad news but it sounds very much the same.
I ran scandisk on a 850mb quantum drive a few weeks ago and it took almost 10 hours and the amount of bad clusters was amaizing. (ran it in dos after a format which took almost as long and the pc still runs quite well.)

if scandisc restarts so much it could be that you have a program running. you said that not progam is running, but some programs you cant see so easy. check your process manager and see whats there. if not, you must try to format your HD. if this donīt work too delete any patitions make new and format then. if this will not work too, uh oh, the only that could! help you is an "low level format" or buy an new hd

you may need to clear your startup programs. to do this, click start, run, type 'msconfig', click the startup tab on the right (or middle for winMe) and uncheck everything you don't want running with exceptions for EXPLORER and SYSTRAY, everything else can go. if you are running winMe, DO NOT UNCHECK THE STATEMGR OR PC HEALTH! this should solve your lockup problems if you do not have a corruption within windows.

Hey guys, thanks SO MUCH for all your help! I was able to get Scandisk to work, and also able to defrag my computer. However, after all this was finally done, I had no errors. So is doing all this going to change my problems that I had with DiscJuggler even though there were no problems on my harddrive?

Defrag won't show an "ERROR" unless it cannot complete because Scandisk needs to run.

Defrag just rearranges all of the data on your disc so it is contiguous. That means it doesn't have to seek all over the disc to read the data and can read all the data faster because it's all lumped together with no gaps or other files breaking up the order of the sectors of data.

Depending on how fragmented your drive originally was, you may see a considerably performance increase from getting DEFRAG done (be sure to run it every couple of weeks, or at least once a month).

Let us know if it works Mr. Bar. I'm curious if scandisk and defrag helped your buffer problems.
