Discjuggler settings question - Mode 1/2 & Cd-DA/XA

I am wondering if anyone has an answer about this...

I have successfully burned a couple dozen games so far with DiscJuggler. I have switched between using Mode 1 and Mode 2 on different occasions with good results most of the time. Lately I have been using Mode 2 as a default. If, for whatever reason, I get an error (illegal field in command descriptor block), I just switch it to Mode 1 and try again. Same with switching from CD-DA to CD-XA - usually I just leave it at DA, but lately I've tried XA as well.

Now, the real question is, does ANY of this REALLY matter? I seem to get good results no matter which way I go, so is changing the settings doing anything at all? If it is, then how? If it's not, then what's the point? Why give you the option at all? And what is it really changing?

Just curious. I've made some coasters. Not a lot... but if changing the options is going to increase my success rate, then I'd like to do so, and in the right way.

I've run into that error or some CDI files (you should never need to change any settings in DJ except Overburn, since the settings come from the .CDI).

I don't even try to burn the CDI to disc after receiving that message. I simply use CDMAGE to extract the files (and audio if present) to my hard drive, then I use the Selfboot tutorial to burn the disc manually.
