would DVD-R games damage v3 PAL PS2 Laser?

hey, the place i found, they do messiah for $250 AUD,
they said 30002 with no R the old PAL PS2 works fine with messiah, they do put messiah on those and plays DVD-R games with no problems
theres no reason to buy another PS2 if the old one works fine
