So far I haven't come across a (real) cracking team (not games in general, mainly SnD and similar stuff) that gets paid for anything.
I have seen that there are teams that get paid for hours, you can buy their skills so to say. And that's heavily illegal, if RE will be paid, that's like killing ppl for money, hardly the same, but the concept isnt very different
Those teams are no real teams anyway, I think that's a totally different scene

actually its pretty common knowledge that the cracking teams (at least the game iso ones) DO make money from dodgy sources... mostly its from dodgy asians (not trying to be racist or stereo typical.. im talking from first hand experience) buying cracks and iso's before the games were even released on the inet etc (pre-pre's).. as for the money making the way to the crackers, thats another story.. i know of some in other teams who got free laptops and hardware for their 'job' and others who got nothing, and did the cracking for the fun of it (and then got totally screwed in the process when the 'heat' came)... people DO make money from piracy, thats a common fact, from your street corner seller, your friend who burns copies for his mates at $5 or whatever, right the way up to the asians pressing silver cd's/dvd's and selling them as legit...

I think the 2 previous covered me.
However i will just say that groups like Reloaded and others sell Games to the people that pay them.
Then the people that pay them fill entire HDs with games and distribute it around the world far before the games hit the market.
Hell i dont expect them to work for free but since they are doing it for money i dont accept the "free" term.



PS : Program Cracking Groups get paid for the cracking of major programs and not small time ones.

FYI: I used to crack, and nobody gets paid nadda.


Its the Pirates with access to dumps who sell the stuff etc.


If they sold what they cracked, if found and taken to court, it would be alot worse than what they would have got for just cracking the protections.

Nobody is gonna put themselves in a situation where they would get a huge fine/jail time for selling or profiting.

If I am not mistaken one of the italian leaders for Razor1911 sold what they cracked once and he got busted and all that. I doubt most other cracking groups does that.

The guy from DoD, not Razor1911, DoD was a different area connected to Razor1911.

okay, i think you know who i am... if not pm me, i know for a fact at least 2 of the big teams about oh 2-3 years ago WERE selling slots on ftp sites, WERE paying crackers with laptops and hardware, WERE selling cracks and 'releases' before they were even pre'd... and theres numerous reports of this in the scene, and the the police / fbi / whatnot evidence PROVES this fact... and made a lot of money out of it...

lets do the math.. one team i was in.. and im sure most of you will probably know it (and/or used at least one of the cracks i did)... cracks were sold like this...
safedisc / securom were $200 (i saw this in police reports), starforce and/or custom shit $250, pre-pre releases sold from $3000 upwards depending on the 'expected' popularity of the game, crackers might not have seen the money sure (some definately did, and bragged about it).. 800+ releases.. adds up to a nice little sum... which incidentally, i saw nothing of.. didnt make a penny

In hindsight i wish i never joined the scene, i wish i just cracked the stuff for myself... infact, i wish a lot of things... mostly that what happened never did happen...

Jeesus, if that is indeed going on things have changed a hell of a lot.

They are setting themselves up for big time pokey or fines doing that.

You sure it was groups and not the TS admins that were doing that?

Nobody knows each other so what a few people say may be true.
My source was a big pirate web around Europe who were indeed paying BIG cracking groups lots of money in order to get cracked games.
However i knew them 4 years ago and not now since im only getting originals now with the exception of small games like pacman :P

yup, it was definately going on, not the admins, 'seniors' of the group (not the siteops) were involved (in my case) - 4 or so of em, and it happened in other teams too, and yup, definately setting themselves up for big time in the slammer and / or fines, ad i said though this was about 3ish years ago, things may have changed in the scene since (i very much doubt it though), all i can say is ... to anyone thinking of 'joining' the scene, seriously do some research on the team..
