i bought the 5 cd version but i hate having to put the damn cd in drive to play everytime...i tried the hijackhl2 thingy and it dont work...followed the instructions perfectly...i go to load hl2 and then it gives me an error saying this game is currently unavailable...

any ideas?

Sounds like you never fully completed the registration process. Go to Steam, right click on Half-Life 2 and pick Properties. If it says Offline Mode Not Ready, then you're not done. Just leave Steam online for the day and it should be done by the time you get back.

nope..it says offline mode: ready

, replaced the hl2.exe with the one I extracted from the source engine.gcf and it says same as venom "The game is currently unavailable". I do remember hijack talking about the unprotected hl2.exe being *DISABLED* . If using hijack's "FIXED" exe is the only way to ENABLE it then, why tell me to extract it in the first place ..

yep works fine the normal way with cd in drive...game loads fine...but when i use hijack i get the "this game is curently unavailable" error when i try and load hl2

Any way around the securerom or whatever protection is on the european DVD?!?!

I've bought the bloody game - and my dvd-r drive (pika-one) won't recognise the dvd - ?!?!?

Sounds like you are due to buy a new DVD player/burner! It will cost you even less than what you have already paid for the HL2 game!
