My V4R PS2 had a few bridged pins on the Video Decoder chip when someone installed a Messiah it it a few years back. It worked fine for a couple of years and then one morning, the decoder blew. It isn't an impossibility, but I suspect the chip is at play here - it's only a Magic 2 anyway...
