The PC will naturally slow down a bit during a burn on some systems as its using resources for the buffer being used.

Ideally you dont want to be doing anything when burning a disc or you may end up with alot of coasters.

Also check that the writer is not sharing the same IDE channel as your main hard drive. Alot of people do this thinking it will be better but it isn't.

Also make sure your page file isnt stupidly set high (should be 1xRAM size upto 2xRAM size). And make sure your actuall RAM is of the same speed and CL level, the lower the number the better.
