star wars weirdness

hey guys this is a bit weird
I have star wars empire at war
had the crack in and using the no cd
but now when i go to play it
it comes up with the first screen then back to windows
I've only got the 1.02 patch in...
should i put the newer patch in with the newer crack?
if so do you just put the new patch in on top of the other
