Max Payne trouble

i cant seem to copy max payne.
when i first brought max payne i installed and it worked fine, both minimal and ful installations. i was running daemon tools v2.80 and it wouldn't play so i got the latest version of daemon and it played. i then proceded to back the game up and when i went to put the copied disc in it said that some of the files ere missing and it wouldn't run, i also get this error from the original cd aswell??? i unstalled max payne and tried to reinstall it, now when installing i get the error data3.cab missing. there is no data3.cab on the original cd. i have also tried max payne on another comp and it works fine???

can u guys help me get max payne working?

comp: p3 600
copied with cloneCD
running daemon tools 2.88
anything elese?

Cheers

Hi Dude,

I have never used daemon-tools as my writer isn't clone-compatible. But I think you should uninstall the tool first.
The easiest way to backup Max Payne (you will have to use a patch though!!) is to copy the whole contents of the CD to a temp dir, let say C:\Payne. Create a dir C:\Payne\Crack.
Download the needed patch and place in that folder or:
Install game from original CD and get unsafedisc2.XX.XX. Execute unsafedisc2 on the max payne main executable (dump/rebuild). Rename the sd2testme.exe (or something like that) to the original name. Copy this exe to the Crack folder.

Burn the whole shit to a CDr and label it as the original one. That's it!

With this CD you can install and play Max Payne.
Keep a backup of the original exe for further patching !!!! (After you installed the game you have to replace the main exe with the one from the crack folder of course !)

That's it!

Max Payne was by far the most difficult game I have ever copied and I have made a bunch! Ofcourse I was using an Acer Drive with CloneCD version 3.X so I had the best of both worlds but my first trial was a coaster because recording speed "Had" never been an issue before...what I had to do for just the game alone was reduce my image and recording speed down to 4X and everything was fine. I also noticed that it was picky with some CD/R's. I "Had" always used Memorex with full success but now I have swithched over to TDK and have never had an issue. One thing you should try is BetaBlocker if you haven't already. You will create your image with CloneCD and drop all 3 files into BetaBlocker one at a time and execute BetaBlocker. This might save you the grief of buying a new CD Burner. You can find the program here "I think" or at www.cdrinfo.com make sure you get the English one if you don't speak German.

Good Luck,

DT
