Unhappy No Connection

Hello guys...

I've been trying but...
I red all that I could about setting up EvolutionC and connecting the PC to the Xbox.
But with no good results.
The problem, I think is with the equipment. Can somebody help me? PLEASE
What I did: Set the XBox for a static IP: 192.168.0.3
Set the PC for a static IP: 192.168.0.1 and sumask 255.255.255.0
And I turn disable all the firewalls and antivirus.
But I get no connection...
Before the changed in my PC IP, I got the message "Connection Failed (no route to host).
After the changed in my PC IP, I got the message "Connection Failed (connection timed out).

I have a Realtek RTL8139 PCI Fast Ethernet NIC... Is this one suitable?
And the cable I think that is a CROSSOVER, I asked one in the shop.
What could be the problem ? The cable ?

Thanks

Well I would start with the cable since you aren't exactly sure about it and it's an easy fix. Hold up both ends next to each other with the little tabs facing the same direction. They should NOT have the colored wires inside them in the same pattern.

You list some of the stuff you have but left out 2 very important points. What are you plugging into what? What program are you trying to connect with?

I have used Realtek cards though I am not familiar with that particular model. It should be fine if it works in Windows.

For starters check your cable and make sure the wires are in a different order on each end, if so then you have a crossover cable. Also make sure that your cable is connected to the PC and Xbox before you turn on your xbox. If it is not then the Xbox senses no connection and does not set an IP. Also if your are like me and have two network setups, one for broadband and one for my xbox connection, make sure to disable all connections beside you xbox.

I think I've actually found out what is wrong but I still need a solution. It seems that my xbox thinks it doesn't have an IP address assigned to it, hence forth my IP address being set up as 0.0.0.0 Now how do I correct this?

well I want to say I fixed it, but if anybody does have to solution please post it for the sake of others. I spent 2 hours eariler helping out Another friend with the same damned problem and it actually sent me on the path to fixing my girlfriend's xbox up (that's who I've been setting this stuff up for) I got the static IP to read finally and on a quick note I want to say boxplorer is friggin cool, it's thanks to that program I even got evoX running. (and thank you Quall for the guide) but I definitely think this problem needs to be addressed somewhere as it seems to plague other people. What I did: Well I didn't att the evoX.nfo file onto the xbox so it didn't read that it had an IP so I copied it over and it worked.

Angry Still not

Thanks for the replys...

Ok... I follow the tips from you and I confirmed that the cable is a CROSSOVER . Thanks !

The program that I'm using is that one that "you talk" FlashFXP.

I have the PC and the XBOX connected through the cable, before I turn on both equipment (PC and XBox).

Headly says :"...one for broadband and one for my xbox connection, make sure to disable all connections beside you xbox" ? I'm sorry but I did not understand.

I go to the network folder, choose the TCP/IP and choose my ethernet adapter, then properties instead of "obtain an IP address" I choose " Specify an IP address"
And i use: IP -> 192.168.0.1 and submask -> 255.255.255.0
So... Do I have to do something more on the PC ?
Because I got the same errors message: "Connection Failed (connection timed out)".

try an older version of EvoX. Also see if the xbox reads the IP. Go into settings with the xbox connected to the pc. if your IP is 0.0.0.0 in the top of the script but the IP 192.168.0.1 then your box doesn't think it has an IP address.

hmm if I understand this right you are booting an Evox cd with the IP set to 0 so you need to change it to the other address and burn it on the cd

I think that I'm in the right way...

So I got the last version of evox an I changed some settings... And now, when I insert the cd, I see that the Xbox is assuming the IP 192.168.0.3
And the cable is working because, when I unpluged it the icon of the network apper with the red X...
Ok... but when I ask to flashfxp to connect.... I got the message "no route to host"

So... what did I miss ?

Please, help me...

HANS_COBBO is on a distinguished road
To make sure there is a connection to your xbox do the following below:

Open up the DOS command prompt and type Ping, space then the IP of your xbox, which in my case it's 192.168.0.157. Check to see if there is any communication between your Xbox and PC (i.e packets sent and received, etc.) If there is, there is nothing wrong with the connection. If not do the following below:

D/L the latest version of Evox which is 1.8.3752, edit the evox.ini network settings below and re-burn it to disc.

SetupNetwork = Yes
StaticIP = Yes
Ip = 192.168.0.157
Subnetmask = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway = 192.168.0.1
DNS1 = 0.0.0.0
DNS2 = 0.0.0.0
SkipIfNoLink = Yes
SetupDelay = 10

Under your TCP/IP properties for your network card, choose 'use the following IP address' and enter 192.168.0.1 and for subnet mask enter 255.255.255. Then under the Advanced Tab not sure if it's avaliable in earlier versions of Windows, as i'm using XP pro. Click on the WINS tab and tick the enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP option. Click okay and re-boot. Then make sure that the Evox network settings are correct on the disc, crossover cable connected, all firewalls, etc disabled like Zonealarm for example, as many forget about that and boot the disc in the Xbox. Open up FlashFXP and enter 192.168.0.157 user name xbox and the same for password. You should now connect and see the contents of the Xbox HD.
