Ninjamod

Ninjamod is an ok chip, but there is little info on the Nm website. I had to search hi and lo to find a wiring diagram for a ver.C cube, and without a broadband adaptor it is practically useless as original bios have trouble reading ANYTHING. Upload updated bios (ver. 1.4, autoboot bios2 disabled!!!) via BBA and it will read decent +/-R media.
When installing the chip I recommend lifting the one leg on the orig. bios chip, otherwise none of your settings (NTSC/PAL, IP adresses,...) can be saved. Not a big deal on a PAL cube, as the chip defaults to PAL, but a rolling black and white screen every time you turn it on (NTSC cube) gets annoying. I have made more coasters for the 'cube than for my xbox and ps2 combined, but I've only had it a month and am still figuring out what works.
Some useful tools for GC backups are "fstfix gui" and "GCM utility" because, as stupid as this sounds, some GC iso's will only work if you convert them to a GCM file and remove the garbage that pads them up to 1.4 GB (GCM utility), then wipe the image and put back all the padding (fstfix) and burn using Nero.
BTW, R.E.4 works flawlessly, but some games that stream the audio will have issues (audio only), but fstfix can remedy that.
P.S. some of my burns wont go past the loading screen, so I'm gonna tweak the laser to see if it helps, will post my results.
One more note: rename GCM files to iso, then they can be burned.

Laser tweak didnt/wont help, at least in my case. Cube is new enough that POT was well within proper operating range.

Exclamation I need help bad!

please help me, i have my GameCube ripped apart and i'm finding the pictures in the instructions are way-way-way different than the motherboard i found in my GameCube. OK, but nowhere did it say that the Ninja Mod was only compatible with certain versions of GameCubes ... so i assumed. i didn't do an insane amount of research but i really don't know much about this stuff ok? ... it's not easy to find information on the web and i searched for hours so don't say i'm lazy. i have no clue what version my gamecube is or even how to find out. i purchased it recently ... maybe 6 months ago. does anyone have any way to find out if i can actually install the Ninja Mod?

Lifting Pin

ok, never mind what i wrote before ... my version is C and i found pictures online to show me how to do it ... but the Pin that must be lifted on the BIOS ... is this impossible? ... i don't get what "lifting it" means as i'm not a circuit board guy. i attached a wire to it and then pulled ... and the wire broke off ... the pin on the BIOS didn't move. i tried using a fine-tipped knife ... nothing happened. what is this pin supposed to do? ... must i lift it up? ... ... help!

You dont have to lift the leg, but as you have a NTSC 'cube you will want to. The ninja modchip defaults to PAL, and without lifting the leg you cannot save your settings. This means every time you fire up your 'cube you will be greeted by a rolling black and white screen. What worked for me was taking a large safety pin and bending the very tip of it over (about the width of the bios leg), then, with the pin hooked under the leg, apply heat (15 watt soldering iron) to the leg and simultaneously pull on the pin (pull parallel to the motherboard, not straight up, as you risk breaking the leg off that way). The pin should slip under the leg, breaking the connection to the board. Once accomplished, gingerly lift the leg a little more and make your connection.

The Viper is overpriced and dated, the Ninjamod is cheap and crude. Best one on the market so far is Qoob, either their SX or Pro model, and is the only one that will let you force PAL/NTSC so all region games can be played. The Ninjamod will do this as well, but only with the pre-flashed bios the chip comes with. Problem is these bios are so crude they have trouble reading anything and I found games crashed frequently or wouldnt load at all.
If I had to buy another chip, Qoob would be my first choice. If you visit their website, dont believe what they say about their bios not booting backups, they do (the latest ones, ver. 1.3 and up, I believe).

Just tried out the new ver. 2.0 bios for the ninjamod, and they are a BIG improvement over previous ones. Streaming audio fix, multi-game disc support, auto reload (no more DRE's), etc... I'm starting to have less regrets about buying this chip, seems to be a real diamond in the rough.

Can you please list this picture or post it? I have the same issue (version C board, with no directions) and I am unable to find a contact point for wire 'E', as there is no FIL34 contact spot.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Kyle

Do not buy from modchipworld.com they are a ripoff. They'll take your money and never ship the merchandise. They will also use stalling tactics, hoping to get you to wait a long time so that you can not dispute the charges in a timely manner. Some credit card companies require that disputes be made within 30 days of receiving the statement.
