Is this idea possible or not?
gamecube games are mini dvd's. there are mini dvd-r discs being sold on the internet, so with a dvd-rewriter theoretically it should be possible providing that someone eventually brings out a chip similar to the ps2 to bypass copy protection and let dvd-r media play on the console.............reply if anyone knows anything. ![]() |

Yeah, there are Mini DVD-R's for sale..But that's not the problem..
Ripping the games is the problem..I really doubt that you could just pop in the GC disc in the DVD rom drive and it will read and make 1:1 image using softwares like Nero,Discjuggler(Now Supports DVD-R) or Prassi.. After that you can't just pop in the burn disc in the GC and expect it to load!! Unless GC is like DC and it was made self bootable but I heard that programming is totally different with XBox and GC.. Given that Xbox requires Modchip.. Also I heard another thing is that GC disc holds about 1.8 gigs and so far the Mini DVD-R's you could buy only holds 1.5 gigs..That means something is getting ripped out from the Original GC disc and burned into Mini DVd-R..So for now unlikely..I'm sure not every game will be 1.8 gig but some will be.. Not the Idea? Heh..Heh..My opinion of course! |

AO3 - yeah, the GC disks are not 'proper' mini-DVD disks, but as you say, not all games will use all the 1.8gig of the disk. Also, you can get PS2 backups on CDR - I assume they remove the FMV from the origional DVD to do this.
You may be able to use CloneCD to rip the GC disk - not tried it yet though. |

--- I don't think having different setting is gonna make a difference when it comes to reading a disc when it won't even load.. If it loads I could see a possibility but it doesn't load so no software in the world is gonna make a difference.. This is little off the Subject but In order to make a 1:1 backup of Gameshark Disc you need to use Blind write program which reconfigures the some of the CD rom setting software wise which reason why it's able to read after installing it otherwise back to Zero with blinking lights meaning not reading the disc.. |

Well I tried CloneCD - I managed to get the drive to accept that there was a disk in it (using the same method as for reading audio CDs protected by Sony's Key2Audio protection) - but...
When I tried to copy an image to my hd all I got were errors and a 1.5gig file full of nothing!! Looks like the GC disks may use some odd file format that windows doesn't read. |

However there is a new Viper modchip which does not require the broadband adapter. It can rip games using an USB cable connected from the cube modchip to your PC. Last edited by rotulos1; 12-01-2006 at 14:14. |
