Slimline PS2
Any news to wheather it's possible to successfully mode the Slimline models without any issues. All i heard was, that the laser was burning out and that they were working on a fix. The machine has been out for a few months now and nothing has been finalised.

Hans.. Spedmetal himself said it wasn't really due to the mods added to them but to the crappy lasers that the early models were shipped with. I don't want to quote him but I do believe him saying (and others) that lasers were burning out in unmodded machines as well as modded.. So these laser fixes may help slightly taking a little load off, but the only thing that is going to make them any more stable is Sony's manufacturing process.

Yeh the coils were burning out making the laser work overtime! with the diode or pic fix with voltage regulator it works perfectly. I personally havent tried but a few people have told me it works perfectly. You could also use the "muppet" chip which is sposed to do that job for you. but it just looks like some kinda fake.

I've had my PAL PStwo since late October last year and I've since installed a Matrix Infinity with the Neofix Xii and it's still going strong.
If you are worried about your laser dying after voiding your warranty, you could run it for a few days solid with a scratched up DVD-R movie disc on repeat. Or play through San Andreas, that game gives the laser a real work out. Also try a few CD based games as well. If it's still ok after all that, you should be right, but as always, there are no guarantees. |

the summone fix looks very reliable to me and a cheap alternative but it looks kinda dodgy if you dont have electrical tape as it could short out on the metal casing or pcb.
