gta san andreas: how do I make it save?

Hi there,
I was wondering how to make san andreas save. It always gives me an error and tells me to check my save directory. I know there is a save dir patch available on the site, but as it uses msdos and I'm running windows xp, it doesn't help me much. I thought it would be much simpler if someone who can save the game just told me what the save directory is ( I thought c:\ gta san andreas user files, but it turns out not to be ), and what files and folders it should contain. If so, I could fix the problem.

Thanks very much all of you

it's because you applied the crash fix...just use the crack from hoodlum or use your originals ;P

so, if I replace the current gta san andreas.exe file with the one given by hoodlums crack folder, I can still run the game and save it? Tell me if I got it right.

Thanks

You also can just reinstall the game from your original cd/dvd, to get the correct save directory.

Hi marius zebo,

Yes, my savegame dir patch is a DOS software but it works under any Windows. If it doesn't work for you, please, start a DOS command line, navigate to the game installation directory, copy the patch there and start it there from the DOS command line. If you get an error message or something, please, quote it exactly. Good luck!

C:\PROGRA~1\ROCKST~\GTASAN~1\GTASA_SG.COM
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and windows applications. CLick "Close" to terminate the program.

That's the error I get. I don't know what it means, if any of you do, please explain it to me. Thanks a lot

Marius Zebo

P.S. I'm realy ashamed to ask, but how do I navigate to the correct directory an d open the patch using the command line? ( I'm no advanced computer user, you see... )

@Marius
Go to this Microsoft page to read why you are getting that error.

BUT

An easier way for you to fix it is to go to this site and download the file in the 2nd post called 'XP_Fix.EXE by TRF Systems, Inc.' (There is a link to download the Xp_Fix.exe) It is at the bottom of the 'Quote' in the 2nd post written by 'Bobske'. Download the file and then just double click the file and it will automatically fix the error. You may have to restart your system once the fix has been done, I cant remember if you need to restart or not?

Then you should be ok to play your game without errors.

OR

Left click my name (The word 'Grumpy') and choose 'Send a Private message to Grumpy'. Send me your email address and I will email you the file that will fix your error. (I wrote this part when you were online but you went offline before reading it )

Inspire's crash fix is actually also a relocation of the savegame dir. Originally, GTA:SA reads HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Profile from the registry and puts its savegames into the GTA San Andreas User Files subdirectory of the directory this registry entry points to. If this registry entry is missing or points to a non-existing directory (?) then, apparently, the game crashes. With Inspire's crash fix, the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Gtasasav is used instead; the .reg file included in the package creates this registry entry. (Of course, if that directory doesn't exist - it's a common and, I think, very lame mistake to assume that everyone installs Windows onto drive C: - the game will continue to crash. )

On the other hand, my savegame dir patch relocates the savegame dir to the SAVEDATA subdirectory of the game's installation directory. Much simpler, period.

Conclusion: you don't need Inspire's fix, you need mine, and there's especially no point in trying to use both.

So, wich GTA_SA.exe i should use ?
If i understand, i just need to patch the GTA_SA.EXE file with your save dir patch and that's all ^^ ?
I'll can load a 100% game save without a crash of GTA_SA.exe ?

After applying your patch, it saves but i can't find my saves on my computer
I can't find a "SAVEDATA" directory in C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\

PS : Sry, for the double post, & answer to my precedent post too please, ty

EDIT : So, i replaced again the GTA_SA.exe file by the one in the Inspire's pack, i created a "SAVEDATA" directory in "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas", i d'idn't patch the GTA_SA.exe with Inspire's patch but with your save dir patch & that's all.

I started GTA SA, then i saw my gamesaves, i tried too load the 100% game save but gta_sa.exe crashed

My patch works on the multilanguage-fixed Hoodlum crack. You need to run the game with its working directory set to the game installation directory (see "Start in" on the Properties page of the icon) as the game is patched to use the ".\SAVEDATA" directory for savegames. (There's no need to pre-create that directory.)

Still doesn't work

I downloaded the Hoodlum's "GTA: San Andreas v1.0 [ALL] No-CD/Fixed EXE" from GCW, like i said, and then i pathed it with your save dir patch, but it still crash...
Oh, and this archive is the same that the one wich is in the Inspire's pack...
So, it's probably the same exe
That's also why it doesn't change anything, gta_sa.exe still crash when i try to load the 100% game save...

EDIT : It finally works !! The prolem was the High And Drunk Mod, i replaced this main.scm with the original and the 100% game save loaded !

Ty, for your help, now i'm gonna test if i can play with the mod. i saved now i'm gonna load but with the mod installed...

EDIT 2 : Ok, it doesn't work with the mod ^^ ! xD
