Broken Sword 3, editing the files.
Hello people, does anyone can helpme with this program (paktool.exe) ?
So I can extract the files from the game, edit and include it again ? Extracting the files was easy, I done it, I just edited some .txt files and tried to include again, but no luck with it. I mean.. I'm trying to edit some subtitles files (translating). When I use the program I can extract all the files from the data.pak (701mb) file fine. I can edit the txt files (where the dialogs are). But when I try to include it again, simply don't work. If anybody wants to help: http://rapidshare.com/files/16806451/paktool.exe.html According to the program: " Usage: paktool.exe [option] arc_file extract_path Option: /e - expand files /p - group files " Thanks. |

Doesnt look that difficult.
Just make sure you work in its own folder as to not mix the files with others. I.e. and empty one Say for example c:\gamedata\ might be a folder you wanna use. Now you would extract to this folder paktool /e thenameof.archive c:\gamedata\ this will extract all files to that folder Do your editing and when done paktool /p thenameof.archive2 c:\gamedata\ (use a new archive file so you can keep a backup of the old one) that should repack the files into a new archive copy the original archive and back it up incase of problems, then remove it and copy and paste your new archive into the same folder as the old one, renaming it to the old archives filename. And start the game. |

DABhand, thanks for the help.
But, yes, it appears to be easy... I did all that you told me... but no luck. I just found out that the paktool.exe file works on the Broken Sword 3 demo... It has a 'data.pak' file inside... smaller.. and faster to edit. Can you try ? please ? Where to download the demo ? here: http://www.gamershell.com/download_4439.shtml Only 241mb... Extracting the files are easy... 'paktool /e data.pak anyfolder' The program will create a subfolder on the folder you're... and put all the files inside. Done that. Fine. Look for the txt files... just edit the ones from the first lines on the game, for testing (the files are unicode text). And try to include on the 'data.pak' again. That's my problem. If you leave the txt files on the same folder and do: 'paktool /p data.pak anyfolder' The 'data.pak' will double the size, the program will ADD all the files, not replace them. If you try with another name, just for create a pak file, it doesn't work... or maybe i'm doing something wrong. Well, that's it. Thanks DAB |
