Suggestions for DVD (movie) backup software?

I've been trying to backup 2 expensive video DVD's (6.8 GB each) that I bought 2 months ago and I haven't been successful with DVD Shrink or some of the limited trial software out there for WinXP. Yes I'm a newbie to DVD backups but I've been trying to find something that is fairly flexible, yet easy to use, and works. I'm willing to buy some decent software but I would like to know that it's going to work well and do what I need it to do BEFORE I purchase it. Therefore I'm looking for suggestions from the members of this forum.

The 2 DVD's I'm trying to copy are not CSS protected but I would like to learn how to backup protected DVD's as well. DVD Shrink would not shrink them enough to fit on a DVD-RW disc.

Is it possible to backup a movie DVD to a DVD-RW disc and have it readible by my TV's 2 year old Toshiba DVD player? Or do I need to burn to some other type of recordable DVD?

Thank you in advance,
John, [email protected]

Talking

i use dvd decrypter to copy the dvd to my hd (thus removing the protection) then dvd shrink to fit it to disc (complete movie or just the main film if you want) both these are freeware mrbass.org does great tutorials on both these progs and links to d-load them. and my toshiba dvd/vhs combo plays dvd-rws ok but can be funny about +r/rw discs
