Daemon Tools Question

I have been trying to make a 1:1 copy of The Sims Deluxe Edition using daemon tools and cloneCD. Although I have never used daemon tools before so i'm pretty clueless as how to run it. I read a thread about many people having problems with creating a 1:1 for the sims deluxe edition and from what I understood daemon tools/clonecd would do the trick. I also read that people tried Alcohol 120% (which didn't work from what I understand). Anyway my question is, is could someone give me a walk through of how to use daemon tools with clonecd to creat a 1:1 copy of the game. I read the daemon tools help file and they don't say how to do it, it just says what a 1:1 copy is. And if you know if Alcohol 120% works then could you also give me a walk through for using that program also? Or if someone finds or makes a nocd patch please send it my way at Overthere100**********com thanks for your help!

Get the latest versions of both programs, Daemon Tools and CloneCD. First start Clonecd, select "Read to image file". In the next screen select the drive that contains your cd (I'd suggest to use the cdwriter for this) and press "Next". In the next screen you have to select a reading profile. It's best to download the newest version of ClonyXXL and scan the cd with this. This program will make a "ClonyXXL" profile that you can select in CloneCD at the current step. You can also try the "Game cd" and "Data cd" profiles, but ClonyXXL is better at this.

Install it, ignore the german comments. When it starts the first time it will ask you to tell it which drive letter is assigned to which drive (it will give you the name of the drives). Assign them like they should be. You now have a german language ClonyXXL, just press on "optionen" and then click on the radiobutton next to the English flag to change the language to english. Now scan the cd with this new ClonyXXL and it will make a profile for CloneCD. Now press "Next" and on the next screen you have to press "Browse" and type in a filename for the image you're going to create, I suggest "Sims Deluxe". Press OK to start making the image.

When the image is made, start Daemon Tools, click on the system tray icon and select "device 0". Then browse to the image file (probably "Sims Deluxe.ccd") and load that. Now you have an extra, "virtual" cdrom drive letter with the complete cd accessible from your hard disk. Now install from this new drive to force the game to use this new drive, you should now be able to play without the cd. If it doesn't work, you can enable Safedisc emulation by rightclicking on the tray icon and selecting emulation/safedisc, though this shouldn't be necessary. One last thing : this will ONLY work with an image made from the original or a near 100% copy

Installing from the virtual image. Only problem is Sims: DE is TWO CDs. When it gets to the "insert CD 2" prompt I can't get it to detect from the CD-ROM. I also tried to mount the image of CD 2 from Daemon at this step, but I get a "transfer error" and the install stops.

Only difference is I am using Alc 120% image instead of CloneCD/ClonyXXL. Does ClonyXXL make a single image from two seperate CDs to fix this problem?

You should make a single image of each cd, then when it asks you to insert disk 2, then right click on the Alcohol icon, unmount the previous image, and mount the image of cd2. This works fine.

I did make an image of CD 2 also for install purposes since I am installing from the virtual drive. But I didn't unmount CD 1 image first. I just mounted the CD 2 image at the appropriate step.

So unmount CD 1 image before mounting CD 2 image... roger that. After the error message I checked and daemon showed the CD 2 image mounted, though.

Thanks for the response Ghost. I'll post my results.

Make sure you mount to the same drive.

I'd like to add that it IS possible to make a backup, just not a straight backup. I backed my original BF1942 cd's with a non sd2 compatible burner. I just made images, compressed them with winrar 3.0 and wrote the resulting two .rar files to two cds. Usually the image is ~100Mb bigger than the actual disc data, which is why I used winrar to get each on one cd. If I ever have to get that backup, all I have to do is extract the images and mount them again. It's not ideal, but it's the way I backup SD2 games with my chunky old Plextor
