My modchip shop tells me their chips don't harm the laser , take a look see under heading "MODCHIPS">
http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/labworld/mod2/index2.html Their "Premium" chip is a neo 2.2 , "Godzilla" is a starchip and not sure what their "Detonator" is (Messiah maybe?) . Says about thier chiptypes in their old site under heading "Products&Prices"> http://www4.tpg.com.au/users/labworld/index2.html I want to play backup dvd-r's too toongaz but I will spew if a new console is neccessary
