You can use the swap trick (i'm not sure, but think it only works on older PSXs). Basically, if you boot your PSX to the Audio CD player screen, insert an original PSX disc and use something to hold down the closed lid button (i.e. a pencil and blu-tak). The tracks of the original disc should then be displayed. Leave the closed lid button depressed and swap the original disc for your backup disc, exit the audio cd player screen and it should boot.

This doesn't always work 1st time for some reason (at least not for me) so you may have to persevere. Good luck!
