are you 100% certain you aren't running the direct x10 version of the game? because the game 'chooses' for you... easiest way is to alt-tab out and check the task manager...
personally speaking i never used the dx9 trainer, only the dx10 one from cheathappens, and had no problems with it... u tried the cheat happens one?

I'm trying the DX9 trainers. I'm pretty sure that I'm running the DX9 version, my graphics card is not DX10 (Geforce 7600GS). I've also tried running the game manually using the DX9 executable.

update: i tried the promo caliber trainer. That works. Now I just need to find a non-promo version.... hmmm
