One thing to try is unplugging the IDE optical drives. Do it at least once to check if the image is working. If the game starts this way, the problem is that SF is still detecting your optical drives and the image itself is fine.

that game is one of the SF games i never managed to get it to work without using my original

TM Sunrise ? Worked w/ unplugging IDE cables, although SF Nightmare stated to be able to work for the version of TMS.. it was SF 3.4 or so
It was SF 3.5 that needed physically unplugged drives ?!
