From what I know, the official Sega lightgun will NOT work with the NTSC version of this game. All other brands will. And the Sega lightgun will work with all other video modes of the game (NTSC-JAP, PAL), just not USA.
I personally have a backup copy of this game, and use my Matkatz (which I think makes the ONLY good 3rd party stuff) gun. It works great.
