This is what i do to make a maxi-image :
I open a mdf file with Winhex, and i click on edit/fill the file, make sure there is 00 in the box and click on OK button.Wait during operation and save the file. BUT when i do that, when i mount the image,Windows say me that the disc is unreadable ! I've missed something ? |

Windows Compression is probably referring to the built in compression for the NTFS files system in Windows XP/2K/2K3, so you can only use this if you have XP/2K/2K3 and an NTFS partition!
This allows you to compress a single file, many files, a folder/s or a whole drive! I believe that files are still uncompressed (but in memory) so you don't need any extra HD space as it just reads part of the file to memory when needed, ideal for those GigaByte sized images! 1: Create an image in alcohol, with DPM set to high and using the Securom Profile
2: Open WinHex and create a blank file the exact same size (in bytes) as the .MDF file Alcohol has just created. 3: Save this blank file with the same filename as the .MDF file Alcohol made, then overwrite the Alcohol image with this blank one. 4: Use windows compression to compress the file. 5: Mount in Daemon Tools and play the game. If you're using Daemon Tools 3 you'll need to use a virtul drive hider such and SR7.Stop. Thats it. If you don't understand what a hex editor is or any of the above instructions. Tough. |
