Problems with my DC

I've seen this kind of problem before. Although mine hasn't ####ted doing this but i heard the problem was that you DC was overheating. someone told me to turn it up on its side with the vent side up and maybe put a box fan beside it. he claimed this worked for him but I dunno.....sounds half-baked if you ask me. But its worth a shot.
