Laser?

Well from what I've read on the forums here, and by god I don't know how they find out all about this stuff, DVD-R media has about 50% less reflectivity of that of an original pressed DVD (which I translate as being it's easier for PS2 to read an original than a copy/backup), so if the laser in your PS2 is not as good as it should or could be then thats probably why you are having problems, also the downside to playing backups is that they reduce the life of your laser as they have to work harder. If you have any original PS2 games and they work fine, then I definately think it's your laser with regard to the backup probs you are having rather than media/software problems.

With the original PS1 you could alter the strengh of the laser, wheather or not you can do that on the PS2 I don't know, perhaps you may have go get a new laser??

Also, if you have a friend with a chipped PS2 try some of your backups that didn't work on your machine on his, again if they work, it pointing towards your PS2 laser.

Anyway, good luck and let us know what happens
