you get that error because you haven't extracted the files to the correct directory....

You must extract the core.dll file & the splintercell.exe file into the system folder of the splintercell game directory...

If you've done it right you will get a "replace existing file message" -click okay to both & then double click your desktop shortcut & you should be right to go....
