No data means that the PS2 has not seen the data groove on the disk. This can occur for any of the following non-exhaustive reasons:
  1. The lens is dirty and insufficient light can get through
  2. The lens mechanism/servo is damaged (unlikely in normal wear/tear
  3. The oriange ribbon cable isn't properly seated or is damaged
  4. Other ribbon cables might be damaged, nicked, broken, screw through
  5. Mis-wiring of the NEO2.2
If tou have a 30001 with 8 screws it's a v4; else it's a v1, v2 or v3. All of these models were the target for Neo2.2.

There is the possibility that you have the Neo2.2 that puts out 5v through Pin 2 (SCEx); in this case it may have 'fried' your laser.
