Warlock is 100% spot on.
The no solder mod is only useful if you're backups are gonna be straight 1:1's. Ie if its a dvd game, then on dvdr. It is limited (whether using swap magic 2 discs or gameshark/actionreplay 2) to toc of cdr games. Anything over 640meg is simply not gonna boot.
