Can your DVD player play VCD discs? Perhasp your player isn't compatible with blank cd-r media. Also, do these audio cd's play in domestic hi-fi units? If they do, it's more than likely you DVD player that's at fault.
You could try the latest version of your cd-writing software; Easy Cd 4.2 Deluxe or Nero 5.03. If you use older software you may be burning to an older cd-standard, I don't know for sure. Sorry I can't help ya out more, all the best.
