Now i would have said that EA games copied with CloneCD on a fully comptabile reader/burner combination (RAW-DAO+96) obviates the need for the EA method on NEO2.2. Just use DVD Region X or AR2 to boot the PS2 and then swap in the EA game.
On v4 PS2s with NEO2.2 that's how it works and the 3 tray control pins don't come into it. Or have I missed something in my explanation?
