voodoo_nbgd hit it nail on the head. You also speculated, and correctly so, when you mentioned the bugs that were supposed to have been fixed in the patch. It's a modded crack from the original version. Specifically modified resource info including the version and what-not. Ba$tards

You're stuck with the original disc dude. And, if you actually don't have the disc and are just saying that, you can grab a brand new copy from eBay for about £2. I know, because I did, only recently
