The 1.0 Deviance exe on GCW works fine as a no-DVD for me,even after patching to 1.1 as the 1.1 update doesn't seem to do anything to the single player exe file.
Loads of times I've had files from GCW labelled as fixed exe's that work perfectly as nocd's. Like George_K suggested,perhaps it's a hardware problem.
